Maura
Vazakas is a San Diego artist working in mixed media on
canvas. She grew up in New York City. As the daughter of
an artist, she learned to draw at an early age. As a teenager,
she plastered her walls with self-designed fashion sketches.
Poetry and music are other
art forms through which Maura expresses herself. She studied
piano at the Juilliard School of Music. In the years following,
she went to Oberlin College, majoring in Piano performance
and minoring in art. While at Oberlin, she studied with
the noted authority on Pop art, Ellen Johnson. She greatly
influenced Maura's love of art and the Pop art movement.
